What are you going to do?

Athora's Investment Office consist of a several specialist portfolio managers with deep investment knowledge, leveraging its strategic partnerships with tier one asset managers (including Apollo Global Asset Management) to access differentiated private investment opportunities. This ultimately supports strong investment outcomes for its customers and shareholders.

With a balance sheet of €65 billion, Athora Nederland is one of the largest insurance companies in the Netherlands. To help strengthen the team which is responsible for managing these assets on a day-to-day basis, we are looking for an Investment Manager - Private Credit and Alternatives. 

Our Return Seeking credits and Alts portfolio consists of various strategies across Western Europe and North America and include several specialist strategies - with a focus on cash-generating and downside-protected investments with positive ESG-impact including:. 

• Sponsor backed Middle Market and Large Cap Private Debt;

• Private Investment Grade Capital Solutions;

• Private and Preferred Equity Opportunities; 

• Liquid High Yield Credit including Broadly Syndicated Leveraged Loans and High Yield Bonds; and

• Asset-Backed loans and Hybrid Capital. 

You will be (jointly) responsible for executing Athora's private assets investment strategy focused. As an experienced professional you will also be managing third party managers (including our strategic asset management partner), and specifically the deal origination and portfolio management processes including annual on-site visits.

Your responsibilities also include asset selection, monitoring of the investment opportunities, developing insights, conduct reviews and ensure delivery of expected financial performance. Furthermore you will be responsible for the preparation and presentation of return-seeking investment proposals and portfolio reviews to management and the investment committee.

What do we ask from you?

As a Portfolio Manager, you will have several tasks/responsibilities:

• A master degree in Economics / Business studies / Investment management or equivalent degree

• Prior experience in private asset management preferably at a leading investment bank/private credit platform or M&A advisory with 3-6 years of experience in structuring and underwriting fixed income and / or alternative investments

• Conduct in depth due diligence, financial analyses and broader market updates

• Prepare investment proposals and presentations for investment committee and management team

• Monitor the performance of existing investment portfolio's considering both opportunistic and defensive ideas during the investment horizon

• Liaise with internal risk management, legal, finance, and operation teams on new transactions

• Maintain relationships with external parties including asset managers, investment banks and other 3rd party advisors

• Contribute to the development of Athora's investment policy as well as the strategic asset allocation

• Strong entrepreneurial drive with a commercial sense and ability to manage strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to identify and analyze new investment opportunities in private assets

• Excellent writing and communication skills in English and fluency in Dutch is preferred but not essential

• Professional qualification, such as CFA, VBA, CAIA or equivalent, or willingness to work towards it
